Health Update
Isn't that an adorable video of Charlie and Daddy?
As many of you know, Charlie has had a cough for about six weeks. We've been to the doctor several times and tried several different treatments including nebulizers and prescriptions. Since nothing seemed to work, our pediatrician recommended we go see a pediatric pulmonologist (I had to ask what that word meant...it's a lung doctor) at Children's Mercy in Kansas City. Originally they had us scheduled for August 2nd but there was a cancellation this last Tuesday so we headed up there bright and early that morning. The pulmonologist was very helpful and took a lot of time to ask questions and answer our questions. It turns out he has some acid reflux, which is why he's been coughing so much. He rarely spits up, but the doctor said his spit up isn't making it out his mouth because it's getting trapped in his trachea, which is why he's coughing so much. She gave us some medicine and sent us to get a GI scan to be sure there were no anotomical abnormalities. It was really cool because they put him in this machine and fed him and we got to watch the monitor as the food went down his esophogus and into his stomach and then his small intestine. It was perfectly normal and the medicine, which he has now been on for a few days, seems to be helping! Hopefully this pesky cough will go away soon!
